Ticket inspectors attacked on Athens metro, raising safety concerns
A man was arrested at Evangelismos metro station on Thursday after beating up two ticket inspectors.
The incident was witnessed by a policeman. He called for backup to arrest the passenger, who allegedly used martial arts moves to attack the inspectors.
There has been a rise in the number of attacks on ticket inspectors over recent months and transport authorities are concerned that the police force is not fulfilling its contract with the public companies to provide security at stations as often there are fewer policemen than has been agreed and they are not adequately trained for the specific job.
