Police on trail of robbery gang

Police are seeking to identify the suspected accomplices of a 26-year-old Albanian national who is being charged with a string of home robberies around the capital and in different parts of the Peloponnese.

Officers arrested the 26-year-old in the western Athenian suburb of Egaleo, after evidence at one of the robbery sites indicated that he is the same man wanted after escaping from police detention in Corinth in February. It is believed that he is part of a gang that conducted dozens of home robberies, making off with an estimated 150,000 euros in cash and valuables, including several cars.

One of the gang members is also wanted for attempted manslaughter after trying to ram into police officers while driving the getaway car from a robbery in Argolida, in the northern Peloponnese, in April.
