Waiting for Vari-Koropi with bated breath
Works on Vari-Koropi Avenue are going full speed ahead, as is the Koropi bypass. From Kalymnos Street, on the boundary between the suburbs of Voula and Vari, to the intersection with Attiki Odos, a total road length of 13.5 kilometers (8.4 miles) is being improved and widened. The work, which will be ready in the first five months of 2004, will connect the southern suburbs with the airport and the eastern section of Attiki Odos, reducing journey time and improving both traffic and road safety. There will be two lanes in each direction, a traffic island that will be planted with trees, sign-posted multi-level junctions and a left-turn lane. The project will also provide Vari with a bypass, which will be help relieve traffic congestion at its center. Studies for the work alone cost 49.5 million euros.
