Hundreds of retired seamen…

Hundreds of retired seamen and their family members waited in line for hours yesterday outside the Seamen’s Pension Fund (NAT) offices in Piraeus, after a rumor that it was the last day they could apply for certain benefits. As the line spilled onto the street outside the building at 1 Ethnikis Antistasseos Street, large traffic jams built up. It turned out that the pensioners were not entitled to the family allowances referred to in the rumor. Government spokesman Michalis Papapetrou expressed the belief that there will not be any «hot heads» who will cause harm to Cyprus, and he explained that the time is critical for there to be any negative developments for the Cypriot people. The government called for people to take a «responsible attitude.»
