Romanian president visited Athens
Heavy rain accompanied Romanian President Ion Iliescu (c) as he ended a three-day visit to Athens yesterday. Iliescu later visited Iraklion, Crete, for the day, where he visited the archaeological museum and the Minoan site of Knossos. He met with President Costis Stephanopoulos (l) and other officials in Athens. Yesterday he thanked Greece for its support for Romania’s bid to join the EU, saying it would be ready by 2007. Our main goal is to build a real public health system that will above all function for our citizens and then for the rest of us, he said.
