Striking Athens taxi drivers demonstrated through the city center yesterday, causing severe traffic problems, to demand an extension to the January 1 deadline for them to install receipt-issuing meters. Cabbies started an open-ended strike on Thursday. Some 15,000 taxis work the streets of Athens every day, aggravating the city’s perennial bottlenecks.
