Opposition parties slam House speaker for criticizing policeman

Opposition parties rounded on parliamentary speaker Zoe Constantopoulou on Wednesday after she was filmed criticizing a police officer for preventing protesting doctors and hospital staff from marching past Parliament towards the Administrative Reform Ministry.

Constantopoulou demanded to know why the police officer had blocked the protest and asked for him to give his details.

New Democracy, To Potami and PASOK all issued statements condemning Constantopoulou for interfering in the police’s work.

New Democracy said the parliamentary speaker stepped beyond the bounds of her authority and that this reflected badly on the government.
