Ten suspects arrested over 2011 abduction
Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the abduction of a 24-year-old Pakistani man from the area of Lagonisi, east of Athens, in April 2011.
They said the suspects – five Afghans, three Pakistanis and one Sri Lankan – had snatched the victim and held him for ransom.
Authorities also arrested a 43-year-old Pakistani man believed to be the mastermind of the operation.
The 24-year-old was released a couple of weeks following his abduction, after his relatives paid the sum of 2,450 euros in ransom.
The blackmailers had originally asked for 10,000 euros.
