Not the time to discuss guarantor powers, Cavusoglu says
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Tuesday, during a visit to the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus, that the time was not right for a discussion about guarantor powers on the divided island, essentially rejecting recent suggestions by his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias that a Cyprus solution should not involve guarantees.
“There is no sense, no benefit in beginning a discussion now on this,” he said. The issue of guarantees will be broached by a five-party summit – Greece, Turkey, the two Cypriot communities and Britain, the third guarantor power – once negotiations on the Cyprus problem have finished, he said.
