Schaeuble says Greek proposals ‘confirm’ his pessimism on quick deal

Germany’s finance minister said Wednesday that a Greek reform proposal in talks with creditors to prevent a debt default initially confirmed his pessimism on the chance of a speedy accord.

Wolfgang Schaeuble told reporters that he had heard some elements of the Greek plan, which «however change nothing in my assessment to colleagues in Dresden. It rather confirms it.”

Schaeuble had told G7 finance ministers in the eastern German city of Dresden last week that optimism over a quick deal was not justified. [AFP]
