Decision banning nighttime access to Athens hills overturned

Nighttime visits to three hills in central Athens – Pnyx, the Hill of the Nymphs and the Hill of the Muses – are to be permitted following a ruling by the fifth section of the Council of State which overturns a 2008 decision by then Culture Minister Michalis Liapis.

The ruling was issued in response to an appeal by local residents who protested at having their access to “common archaeological sites” restricted.

“It is the right of the citizen to have access to cultural assets.”
