Blaze at recycling plant put out as experts say pollution is within acceptable levels
Firefighters were able on Friday to fully extinguish a blaze at a closed recycling plant in Aspropyrgos, southwest of Athens, which had been belching malodorous smoke into Athens’s atmosphere since last Saturday.
According to the Attica Regional Authority, only a few parts of the plant, which was completely destroyed in the fire, are still smoldering.
It also said that pollution measurements conducted by the National Observatory showed that the microparticles emanating from the blaze are below emergency levels as stipulated by international safety standards.
