Greek coast guard helps 706 migrants in Aegean in 1 day
The coast guard helped rescue 706 migrants in the eastern Aegean over the previous 24 hours, authorities said on Thursday morning.
Coast guard officers helped migrants in 33 separate cases, conducting rescues off Lesvos, Samos Agathonisi, Farmakonisi and Kos.
The coast guard said that during June it conducted a total of 517 search and rescue operations involving 31,318 migrants.
A total of 26 suspected traffickers were arrested and 129 vessels seized.
