Riot police and protesting…

Riot police and protesting olive growers clashed on the Athens-Patras highway near Aigion, in the northern Peloponnese, yesterday. The farmers, who wanted to block the highway, threw sticks and stones at police, who responded by firing tear gas. The farmers, who want subsidies for all the oil they say they have produced and not 60 percent of it, dispersed after the clashes at 3 p.m. Three of them were detained briefly.
