Greek media, politician fooled by parody tweet

The Cyber Crime Unit is investigating an apparent parody Twitter account created in the name of public broadcaster ERT’s president, Dionysis Tsaknis.

A tweet from what was clearly described as parody account claimed on Monday that ERT had failed to cover a press conference by outgoing parliamentary speaker Zoe Constantopoulou due to political intervention.

A number of news outlets picked up on the tweet and reported it as fact.

Popular Unity MP Rachil Makri also expressed outrage at the supposed comments from the ERT chief and responded to his tweet.

She later deleted the tweet.

The broadcaster issued a statement saying that Tsaknis does not have a Twitter account and that the claim made in the fake one was not true.
