Secretaries’ annual income is nothing to write home about in this country

Wages for the profession that is traditionally identified with young women, that of secretary, are also very low in this country. The annual income of a secretary to a head of department in a big firm in Greece comes to just 10,418 euros, the second-lowest pay level in the 15 EU member states (with Portugal bringing up the rear again). Denmark ranks first in the EU, with annual pay for secretaries reaching 33,803 euros, followed by Belgium with an annual income of 31,592 euros and Luxembourg with 26,434 euros. It should be noted that the highest-paid secretaries in the world live in Basel in Switzerland (earning 49,600 euros annually) and in New York (where they earn 49,000 euros per annum).
