State kindergartens across Greece are expected to be fully operative in the new school year after the Council of State on Wednesday gave the green light for new hirings as well as contract renewals for staff following a request by interim Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction Antonis Manitakis.

The country’s highest administrative court approved the hiring or rehiring on fixed-term contracts of 7,017 employees, whose salaries are funded mostly through European Union programs.

The court’s decision also included the hiring or contract renewal of 13 employees at staff municipal services aimed at flighting violence against women.
