Hollande says migrants’ status must be sorted out in Greece, other EU entry points

It’s the responsibility of the entire European Union to resolve the migrant crisis, which requires following a French-German plan to determine who’s eligible for asylum status at the borders of the EU and then spreading the refugees around the 28-member bloc, French President Francois Hollande said.

“The controls must be done at the entry to Europe, that is in Greece, Italy and Hungary,” Hollande said during a visit to central France.

EU interior and justice ministers are meeting Monday in Brussels to hammer out an agreement on binding quotas, which have been opposed by eastern European countries. Germany reimposed some border controls with Austria Sunday to stem the flow of refugees seeking asylum.
