Two arrested over attack on ND deputy

Police on Wednesday briefly detained two suspects in connection with an attack on New Democracy deputy Giorgos Koumoutsakos on the sidelines of a Pontic rally outside Parliament earlier this month.

According to the authorities, one of the suspects, a 23-year-old man, has been captured in footage of the incident beating and kicking Koumoutsakos. The second suspect, a 32-year-old woman, is believed to be the one seen ripping the MP’s suit jacket.

The two are expected to give depositions in the coming days.

Earlier Wednesday, a group of 30 conservative MPs submitted in Parliament a question to Alternate Minister for Citizens’ Protection Nikos Toskas slamming the leftist-led government for failing to identify and arrest the assailants sooner.
