Athens police nab Afghan who kidnapped Iranian

A 27-year-old Afghan man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and holding to ransom an Iranian man in Athens.

Police launched an operation to arrest the suspect after the Iranian reported that he had been held against his will for five days at an apartment in Aghios Panteleimonas, central Athens, before managing to escape.

According to the Iranian, his abductors demanded that he call his family in Iran and ask them to wire 2,000 euros in order to set him free.

Police said they are looking for a second suspect.
