Basic public transport fare to rise on Feb 1

The price of regular tickets on the Athens public transport system will increase on February 1, a rise that comes on the back of travelcards also going up in price.

The Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) announced on Wednesday that as of Monday a basic fare will cost 1.40 euros, rather than the current 1.20. However, the duration of the ticket will increase from 70 minutes to 90 minutes.

The price rise was first announced several months ago, when the value-added tax rate for transport went up from 13 to 23 percent. The delay was attributed to the change in OASA’s management.

Earlier this week it was announced that the cost of monthly, three-month, six-month and annual travelcards had also increased.
