Commission approves emergency funding for refugee centers in Greece

The European Commission on Monday approved 12.7 million euros in the form of emergency funding for Greece for the development of refugee and migrant centers on Greece's mainland.

The funding was expected to come from the EU's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and go toward the erection of centers capable of temporarily hosting up to for 8,000 people.

In comments made on Monday, Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos noted the move was further proof of EU's solidarity and strong support for Greece and the country's efforts to manage unprecedented migrant flows.
