Storms, hail, snow, gales forecast over weekend
The national weather service on Friday issued an emergency report warning of heavy downpours, hail and snow on the mountains of mainland Greece over the three-day holiday weekend.
The wet front will sweep in from the Ionian islands in the west starting on Saturday, spreading to eastern parts of continental Greece through Sunday.
Showers are expected to ease as of Monday, but gale-force northerly winds will keep temperatures at low levels, bringing snow to the northern highlands.
