Recycling for life vests, dinghies?

Greek authorities are examining ways of recycling the dinghies and life vests used by more than a million refugees who have arrived in the country since the beginning of last year.

Dimitris Politopoulos, the head of the Hellenic Recycling Agency, said on Wednesday that there have been discussions with a factory in Italy regarding the disposal and recycling of the dinghies but the cost of transporting the abandoned vessels is extremely high at some 500 euros per ton.

There are also difficulties regarding the disposal of the life vests as they consist of several difficult materials, said Politopoulos, whose agency operates under the auspices of the Greek Environment Ministry.
