High waves thrash…

High waves thrash the Thessaloniki waterfront yesterday, as storms and blizzards caused mayhem across the country, blocking off villages and closing roads. In Athens, heavy snowfall enveloped most of the city in the evening, causing considerable traffic problems. Not only were the roads leading up to the mountains of Parnitha and Pendeli closed, but many in the northern suburbs were impassable to vehicles without snow chains. Around 9.30 a.m., the national road to Lamia was closed at the Kifissia junction to allow regional authorities to pour salt over the snow. Today all schools in Attica will be closed due to the weather.
