Snowden, Amanpour, Varoufakis to join Athens Democracy Forum

Former US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden, CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis were among speakers at The Athens Democracy Forum taking place in the Greek capital in September, organizers announced.

Organized by The International New York Times, the event showcases panel discussions on migration, oppressive politics, democracy and business, among other issues. Events run September 14 to 18.

More speakers at the forum included Soviet-born Israeli politician Natan Sharansky, China-born economics professor Yasheng Huang, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, Tunisian businesswoman and leader of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Ouided Bouchamaoui, former Australian premier Kevin Rudd and American economist and op-ed columnist for The New York Times Paul Krugman.
