Tension on first day of GD trial at new venue

The trial of Golden Dawn’s leadership and dozens of supporters resumed amid tension Monday after being moved to the Athens Appeals Court complex from a makeshift courtroom in Athens’s Korydallos Prison.

Giorgos Roupakias, charged with the murder of leftist rapper Pavlos Fyssas in September 2013, reportedly attacked a photojournalist that was documenting his arrival at the courtroom.

The incident reportedly sparked a reaction from Magda Fyssa, the mother of the murdered man, and family members.

The change of venue took place following months of appeals by authorities and residents in Korydallos, the families of GD victims and the presiding judge at the trial, Maria Lepeniotou.
