Family of dead Jetoil owner releases statement

Kyriakos Mamidakis, the chairman of Greek company Mamidoil-Jetoil who killed himself at his Athens home on Sunday after the firm filed for bankruptcy, “decided to leave with his head held high,” the businessman’s family said in a statement released on Monday.

A coroner ruled on Sunday that the 84-year-old died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The company, which operated around 600 gas stations across Greece, filed for bankruptcy early last month, declaring that it owed creditors more than 300 million euros.
