Migrants clash with police on Leros island
Protesting migrants clashed with police at a reception facility on Leros, a small Greek island seven miles from the Turkish coast, according to reports.
Police, with help from coast guard officers, managed to contain the crowd who reportedly threw rocks and wielded wooden sticks.
No serious injuries were reported, but protesters are said to have caused damage to the container accommodating the officials.
Reports said protesters were reacting to news that a group of volunteers would arrive on the island to offer medical care to local residents. Protesters reportedly demanded that they be allowed to leave the country.
About 650 migrants and refugees are currently stranded on the island.
