Police raid squats in Thessaloniki

Police in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, said an operation was underway on Wednesday morning at three buildings occupied by squatters.

Police said several individuals were detained following separate raids at the now-defunct Megas Alexandros orphanage in the Ano Toumba neighborhood, the Mandalideio mansion on the coastal Nikis Avenue, and an eight-story building in downtown Thessaloniki.

Two of the buildings were said to be state property.

No more details were immediately available.
