Prosecutor calls for life sentences for five suspects in Noor 1 case

A Piraeus prosecutor on Wednesday recommended life sentences for five suspects implicated in the Noor 1 heroin smuggling affair, Kathimerini understands.
The prosecutor is seeking life in prison plus an additional 10 years and a 1-million-euro fine for Makis Yiannousakis, the former owner of the Noor 1 cargo ship, and Giorgos Bourdouvalis, the agent.
Three Turkish defendants should be handed life in prison plus 10 years and 500,000-euro fine, according to the prosecutor.
The prosecutor called for 12-year sentences for another three defendants.
The sentences are to be announced on August 2.
