Firefighters bring blaze in Megara under partial control

Firefighters on Monday managed to bring a forest blaze in Hani, near Megara, west of Athens, under partial control.

A total of 24 firefighters, manning 16 engines, were sent to the scene, helped by a water-dropping aircraft.

The blaze started at around 6 a.m. for reasons that remained unclear.

With the past 24 hours, the fire service has tackled 64 fires on forest or farmland and 36 fires in urban areas.
