Court to weigh appeals against TV license auction

The Council of State, Greece’s highest administrative court, is on Friday expected to consider appeals against the constitutionality of a recent auction of TV licenses by the government.

Six television channels appealed against the auction, which was overseen by State Minister Nikos Pappas rather than the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) and which limited the number of channels to broadcast nationwide to four.

Earlier this week, the court rejected appeals by several television channels for an injunction to annul the auction result.

Sources indicated that the court might have to convene again before issuing a verdict.
