Fire service responds to hundreds of calls following heavy rain in Attica, western Greece

Firefighters in Attica, western Greece, the islands of the Ionian and the Peloponnese responded to over 300 calls from distressed citizens amid heavy rain and strong winds that lashed parts of the country late on Friday and in the early hours of Saturday.

The majority of the calls were made in and around the Greek capital, requesting the removal of trees or large branches that had collapsed.

In the Ionian islands, four summons were made to help people trapped in their homes or cars.
