Migrants rescued off Samos as arrivals continue

Authorities said a total of 75 migrants and refugees crossed from Turkey to the eastern Aegean island of Samos on Thursday and on Friday.

They were rescued by staff of the European Union border agency Frontex.

The latest arrivals raised the number of migrants currently staying on the island to 2,304.

Meanwhile, according to government figures, a total of 5,873 individuals are currently being accommodated on Lesvos, 4,167 on Chios, 1,939 on Kos, 846 on Leros and 211 on Rhodes.

The total number of migrants and refugees stranded in Greece is estimated at 69,717. Meanwhile, an estimated 9,050 people are currently staying outside official camps.
