Police bust cocaine and cannabis dealing gang

The Greek Police (ELAS) on Tuesday announced the arrest of 10 suspects believed to belong to a large drug-trafficking ring.

Authorities seized 173 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis and nearly 300 grams of cocaine that had not yet been diluted for sale during raids conducted in different parts of the Greek capital and in Ioannina in northwestern Greece, ELAS said in a press release.

The operation also netted 10 suspects – a Greek and nine Albanian nationals – aged between 26 and 45 years old, and led to the seizure of over 77,000 euros in cash. Police officers also confiscated four precision scales and 43 mobile phones during their sweeps.

One of five vehicles seized was a taxi, which investigators believe was used to transport drugs.

The operation was ordered after police arrested two Albanian nationals in November, the first a 41-year-old man believed to be the ringleader of the gang and the second a male aged 29 who was caught transporting 133 kilograms of cannabis in a rented car.

Investigators believe the gang may be linked to over 100 drug cases that are still being probed.
