Berlin rebuffs reports of dinner plans for Greek FinMin, Schaeuble, Thomsen

The German Finance Ministry on Thursday rebuffed reports according to which German officials had invited Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos for dinner with his German peer Wolfgang Schaeuble and top International Monetary Fund official Poul Thomsen.

"There is no meeting today with the Greek finance minister," the ministry in Berlin said in a response to a volley of questions from Greek and German media. "Neither is such a meeting planned," it said, adding that the German government was involved in a "systematic exchange with the Greek finance ministry and the IMF."

An anonymous source in Berlin had earlier confirmed that such a meeting was in the cards.
