Athens meetings focus on Olympics security
The security umbrella for the Summer Olympics was at the center of talks in Athens yesterday between Public Order Minister Giorgios Voulgarakis and Athens 2004 chief Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki. Following the meeting, Voulgarakis told journalists he was confident that preparations regarding security were on track. «We placed a lot of things in context… we set a time framework for the rest that have to be done and we are very confident,» he said. «I think that in the area of security, things are proceeding very fast and very well.» Shortly afterward, the head of the US State Department’s counterterrorism department, Jose Rodriguez, accompanied by US Ambassador Thomas Miller, also met with Angelopoulos-Daskalaki and Athens 2004’s managing director Yiannis Spanoudakis to discuss security matters.
