Yiannis Pantis, general secretary of Education Ministry, dies
The general secretary of the Education Ministry, Yiannis Pantis, died in Athens Tuesday at the age of 60. He had been in an intensive care unit since he suffered a heart attack on May 18.
A professor of ecology at Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University, Pantis assumed his post in September 2015 under then Education Minister Nikos Filis.
Filis’s successor Costas Gavroglou spoke of a “difficult loss,” while Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras described Pantis as “an academic, a teacher, a fighter, who always strove to marry logic with sensitivity.”
“Nothing is lost from what he taught through his work, his life, his ethos and his struggles,” he added.
