Olympic Torch relay closes many parts of downtown Athens

Commuters were in for a headache in downtown Athens on Tuesday as the Olympic Torch relay was leading to the closure of key streets in the city center.

Starting from 9 a.m. when the Olympic Flame arrived to the Greek capital from Olympia, and until noon at least, motorists are advised to avoid the area around the Acropolis leading to the Panathenaic Stadium. This includes all of Vassilissis Olgas, Irodotou Attikou, Ardittou and Archminidous, as well as a section of Vassilissis Sofias and Vassileos Constantinou.

Traffic flow is expected to return to normal around lunchtime.
