Drug victims
This survey was chiefly carried out among schoolchildren, although a study of the general population is still under way. «We believe that comprehensive results will be completed by fall,» said Terzidou. However, some initial indications have been included in the annual report, at least with regard to the social and demographic characteristics of drug victims. About 46.6 percent of those who lost their lives were over 31 years of age, with over half the deaths occurring in Attica (53.4 percent), and many in Thessaloniki (13.8 percent). As for educational levels, 12.9 percent had completed primary school, and 13.8 percent secondary school. However, no data was available for 70 percent of the victims. During 2002, there was one death from addictive drugs other than opiates, with another four such deaths in 2003.
