Proposal for granting vote to Greeks living abroad to be made in October
The Interior Ministry will have prepared a proposal to help Greeks living abroad to vote in elections during the course of October, Interior Minister Takis Theodorikakos told Skai Radio on Monday.
Theodorikakos added that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will brief other party leaders on the proposed reform with the aim of it being approved in Parliament before the end of the year.
He said the measure was something that should gain the approval of “all 300 MPs in the Greek Parliament.”
Mitsotakis announced the measure on Saturday evening during the official inauguration of the 84th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
“We are informing Greeks all over the world about the Greek government’s determination [regarding this issue], and that, when the time comes, we will also inform them of Parliament’s decision to facilitate them so they can vote from their place of residence, including the right to vote by post, as is the case with many foreign countries,” he said.
“It is time for Greece to join the club of civilized and developed countries regarding the electoral process,” he added.
