Police arrest man for deadly stabbing

Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Saturday on suspicion of murdering 30-year-old Ioannis Pantazis in his apartment in the Athenian suburb of Nea Kifissia when an argument over money turned violent. The accused was arrested at his home in the suburb of Melissia and is said to have confessed to the crime. According to police reports, he admitted to owing Pantazis 200 euros which he could not pay back as he was unemployed. Police say the men got into a fight over the debt at Pantazis’s home early on Friday morning. The accused claims Pantazis pulled a knife on him and in the ensuing scuffle, he grabbed the weapon and stabbed Pantazis in the neck three times, causing his death. The accused said both men were drug users and admitted he had taken heroin before visiting Pantazis. Police have recovered the murder weapon and the accused’s clothes from garbage bins.
