Games opening sold out

Tickets for the opening ceremony of the September 17-28 Paralympic Games have sold out and total sales are expected to reach 400,000 tickets, organizers said yesterday. The Games’ opening ceremony will take place at the 72,000-seat Olympic Stadium on Friday night. Yiannis Spanoudakis, head of the organizing committee, said all the tickets for the event, priced between 15 and 50 euros, had been sold out. He added that between 15,000 and 20,000 tickets for other events were being sold daily and he expected the total figure for sports events, where 4,000 athletes from around the world will participate, to reach 400,000. Fans have the option of buying a day pass which allows them into any events on a given day or a reserved seating ticket, which gives them access to specific events. The Paralympic Torch continues its journey from Marathon this morning. When it arrives at the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on Friday, it will have been carried around Attica by 680 torchbearers, passing through 54 municipalities and covering a distance of 410 kilometers (255 miles).
