Hiker found dead on Crete mountain

One of two young hikers who had been trapped by snow and ice since Wednesday while trekking on Mount Psiloritis in central Crete was found dead by members of the Special Disaster Unit (EMAK) rescue team Thursday.

The pair, aged 20 and 22, had started their hike on Wednesday morning, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported.

They called the fire brigade for assistance after experiencing trouble coming down the slippery mountain slopes.

EMAK rescuers first found the 20-year-old injured and in shock and then the body of the 22-year-old.
