Fake officer charged with sex attack on boy
A man suspected of passing himself off as a policeman in order to approach children outside their schools to indecently assault them, was arrested in Athens yesterday. Police picked up the 45-year-old man, whose name was not made public, after he allegedly offered a 14-year-old boy gifts and money before trying to force himself onto the teenager in the suburb of Aghioi Anargyroi. A policeman’s uniform was found at the suspect’s house. Meanwhile, a 47-year-old man was charged by a Crete prosecutor yesterday with raping a 9-year-old girl. The suspect, whose name was not revealed, allegedly attacked the child in her Rethymnon home while her mother was at work. A doctor who examined the girl said he found medical evidence that she had been raped. He also indicated that the man had a scratch which may have been linked to the attack. The suspect denies the charges.
