Landmarks in Greek-FYROM relations

1991: FYROM votes for independence from Yugoslavia. 1992: Greece demands that FYROM should stop using the name Macedonia. 1993: FYROM enters the United Nations under the name «Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.» 1994: Greece imposes economic blockade, demanding FYROM change its flag and constitution in which the country is named «Republic of Macedonia.» 1995: Under UN auspices, Greece and FYROM sign an accord on ending sanctions in exchange for a new flag and changed constitution. 1997: Greece’s foreign minister visits Skopje, the first Greek official to do so since 1991.
