Briton jailed for bottle murder in Rhodes club
RHODES (AP) – A British man was sentenced to 20 years and three months in jail yesterday for killing a teenage tourist at a rowdy Greek holiday resort last year. Court authorities said Peter Navarro, 22, of Merseyside in northwest England, was found guilty of killing 17-year-old Paddy Doran at the infamous Faliraki seaside resort on Rhodes. Doran, from Peterborough in central England, died on August 12 last year after being stabbed with a broken bottle at a Faliraki nightclub. Navarro spent a year in custody at a prison on the nearby island of Kos. His lawyer had argued that he acted in self-defense. Police on Rhodes cracked down on drunken behavior in Faliraki last year following Doran’s death and a spate of other incidents involving inebriated British tourists.
