Feast day of St Nicholas…
Two naval cadets are silhouetted against the sky yesterday, with the statue of 1821 War of Independence hero Constantinos Canaris in the background, during celebrations on the occasion of the feast day of St Nicholas, patron saint of the Greek Navy. President Costis Stephanopoulos attended the event at the naval academy in Piraeus. An icon of the saint was also carried in a procession through the streets of Greece’s biggest port.
