Journalist faces trial for malicious sex ad

An Athens prosecutor has charged a 38-year-old journalist with defamation following claims that he published a female colleague’s personal details in an erotic Internet advertisement, court sources said yesterday. The man, who was charged on Tuesday afternoon and has not been named, is suspected of entering his younger co-worker’s details on a website without her knowledge and then sending e-mails to interested parties, pretending to be the woman. He allegedly gave out the woman’s cell-phone number in these messages. The female journalist is then said to have received numerous calls from men asking to have sex with her. Close family and colleagues also became aware of the advertisement, prompting her to report the matter to authorities. Officers from Attica Police’s electronic crimes squad investigated the claims and arrested the man on Tuesday.
